What is International Patient Summary (IPS)?
The International Patient Summary (IPS) is an HL7 FHIR profile defining a portable, condensed clinical summary intended for use across borders and across health systems.
In context
IPS captures the minimum clinically relevant information about a patient: problems, allergies, medications, immunizations, history, and recent observations. The profile is structured for portability and machine readability while remaining understandable to a clinician unfamiliar with the originating system.
IPS is a building block for cross-border patient data exchange (the EU MyHealth@EU initiative builds on it) and for any scenario where a portable summary is more practical than a full record export.
How Fire Arrow handles it
Fire Arrow stores standard FHIR R4. An IPS export is a Bundle generated through the standard export path, profiled and validated against the IPS Composition profile.
